Isaiah‬ ‭58:8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“Then your light shall break forth like the morning, Your healing shall spring forth speedily, And your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭58:8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

In this chapter, God spoke about fasting, the kind that He desires. He spoke about what fasting meant to do and accomplish things.

Fasting generally means to abstain self from something we like and want.

Here in Isaiah, God shows that the goal of abstaining is so that we can give that away to someone.

If we are abstaining from food, then we feed what we would be eating to someone who is hungry.

If we want to buy clothes for ourselves, we buy them and give them to someone who needs it.

Therefore, our fasting becomes a powerful witness of God’s love and grace to the world.

When we give away our time to do something for someone else, when we give our resources away though we are in need, we expand God’s kingdom, and that is the kind of fasting God desires.

What goes out of lives will be God’s glory and His power to change lives.

True fasting is not about self but taking what the self wants and giving it to others whom God has placed before us.

When we go an extra mile for others, when we ourselves are in need, that is fasting that gives God the glory.

When we start to fast this way, we will cultivate God’s characteristics in our lives. We will begin to water the seed of compassion, love, and grace of God that is in us through Christ.

Let us not fast to gain something but fast to be a channel of God’s glory, power, and love in this world.

Blessings
