I John 1:8 NKJV
“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”
I John 1:8 NKJV
John is not teaching people to be sin-conscious.
John used the word “if” five times in this chapter alone. He is showing the differences between living in God and living without God.
The context of John bringing this message is to highlight that we cannot believe in God, who is righteous, and keep living like a sinner.
He is giving an illustration of the two lifestyles that cannot be mixed.
This is not to bring condemnation to the people but to show a way to live in God.
Jesus cleansed us from sin-consciousness so that we can be God-conscious.
Therefore, John is bringing up the point that we should no longer walk in sin but as sons of God.
In Christ, there is no sin, and we who live in Him do not desire sin but righteousness.
The reason we need to follow Jesus and turn to Him is because we are now children of God.
We believe all have sinned and fall short of God’s glory and need a saviour.
If sin does not exist then Christ died in vain. But Christ died for all mankind to redeem us all from sin and death.
Let us all live in Christ, follow Him and shine His love in this world.
