I Corinthians 10:6 NKJV
Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted.
I Corinthians 10:6 NKJV
A very important example that we can learn from this passage is to never crave, set our hearts, desire or lust after evil things.
God promised the Israelites that they will enter the promised land. Along came situations and circumstances that block their journey towards reaching the plans that God had for them.
Unfortunately, because they placed their eyes and thoughts on the evil that was around them, it gripped their hearts and caused death to be displayed in their life.
We know that the older generation did not enter the promised land because they kept looking at what is not happening, what is lacking, what is against them, things that are not lining up and so on.
The new generation experienced the same situation and circumstances BUT they chose to fix their eyes on the promises of God and press on till the end.
They gave life to the promises of God, they see it as theirs and they took ownership of it. This was the fashion of Joshua and Caleb's hearts and minds that caused them to see through the storms of life.
God's word is a double-edged sword. If our eyes and heart are on it, it will cut through everything that evil wants to display.
Evil plans will not capture our attention. It will not distort our hearts and we will certainly find ourselves in the promised land as we fix our eyes on what the Lord has said.
These are lessons that show us what works and what don't. We must not emphasize what the evil is doing but emphasise what God Almighty is doing.
The road to our promised land is to see through His eyes.
