Mark 7:9 NKJV
“He said to them, “All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition.”
Mark 7:9 NKJV
Traditions can be a very powerful force to shape our lifestyle. It is the values going even when time and seasons change.
But tradition can become a stumbling block when it collides with the word of God.
Many people cannot move forward in the things of God simply because it is contrary to their tradition.
Great values like not wanting to offend people, being kind, and accommodating everyone can keep people from growing and moving forward in God.
God’s word is a double-edged sword. It will cut things that hold us back from growing.
God does not want us to plateau in our journey with Him. God always brings us from glory to glory and from strength to strength.
Some traditions on the other hand will want to keep repeating and walking in circles, doing the same thing without growth and spiritual expansion.
We can get caught up like the Pharisees and Sadducees who are determined to keep their tradition and reject Christ Jesus.
The reason they keep the tradition is to remember Christ when He comes.
But because they are so focused on keeping the tradition rather than why they keep them, it robbed them of the Messiah who is right before their eyes.
We all have traditions. Tradition is not bad if we know the reason why we keep them.
Tradition is meant to change when the goal is reached. It is to keep moving forward and not to go around in circles.
Let us all be prepared to let go of good tradition when the time comes to move forward in the things of God.
