Mark 10:5 NKJV

And Jesus answered and said to them, “Because of the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept. Mark 10:5 NKJV

Jesus was teaching and the Pharisees asked a question about marriage to test Jesus. Jesus replied to their question by giving them the answer they needed to hear. Jesus saw the intentions of their heart and spoke the truth. Jesus said Moses did not write that because it is from God but because of the hardness of their heart. Many precepts are written because of the hardness of our heart. Our heart becomes hard because of selfish desires and passions. Things that we thought that we cannot overcome can be overcome with Jesus in our lives because love gives. Love is not selfish but love gives. When we read the word of God, our hearts need to be in a right attitude to hear what God wants to say or show us. The Pharisees read the word of God to justify what they were doing is right. Many of us look to God's word for justification. Instead, we should seek what God is saying to us. If we can lay down every question and argument of our heart and mind and just listen to what our Heavenly Father is saying, we will have a much clearer picture and better insight into life. Let us keep our heart and mind fixed to hear God and His instructions and not justify the wrong that we are doing. God has so much that He wants to show us, share with us and bless us.
