Romans 12:16 NKJV
Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.
Romans 12:16 NKJV
When Paul speaks and encourages the believers in the church with regards to having the same mind towards each other, he is not talking about levelling our mind to any form of doctrine and beliefs.
Paul, who preaches Christ and Him crucified is not suggesting anything goes. Christ and His finished work should be drawing all of our minds to unity and harmony.
One of the biggest problems in the church that Paul is addressing is pride and conceit. Pride and conceit will separate and bring discord in the body of Christ.
One of the major thing that attracts people in the early church is that men, women, Gentiles, Jews, rich and poor are together without partiality.
Sharing and caring is not bound to race or status as love binds them together.
To be humble is a gift. It is an acknowledgement that without God we all amount to nothing. This entitles us to everything that is of God.
As part of the body of Christ:-
Are we someone who brings harmony?
Are we loving people to come to know Christ?
Are we someone who does not exalt ourselves above others so that all can learn and grow in the Lord?
Are we someone who always encourage and uplift others to live in Christ?
In this passage, we also learn that whose opinion are we sharing with one another?
The church's opinions, the world's opinions, the leader's opinions or do we uphold God's opinion above all.
True harmony and peace in the body of Christ take place when we all lay down our own opinion and reach out for that which is of God.
