Revelation 2:4 NKJV

Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Revelation 2:4 NKJV

This is a word for all the churches because we will find many in this situation. Many who have left our first love. Earlier verses tells us that they were involved in serving, working and doing things for God. God did not say all this is bad and must do away with it. What God is saying is there is something important missing in doing what they were doing and that is love towards God. Many serve the Lord for their personal gain, to be recognized, to attain position, to be better then others and so on. The motivation of why they do it is wrong. That is why when leadership did not say something about their work, they feel rejected and unloved. If we are doing and serving the Lord because we love God, then we won't be looking for applauses of men. The pride of wanting to be acknowledged would mean we are serving men and not God. When we are in love, we do so many things for that person whom we are in love with. We don't do things that we love but what they love. When we start to do what we love for God and not what He loves, then we know we have left our first love. To love God does not mean to stop doing all the works we have been doing but to check if what we are doing is what He likes, He wants and what He loves. When we fall in love with God, we share that experience, we tell people of His goodness and we never want to stop. This is the excitement and enthusiasm that burst out because we are in love with God. We felt His goodness and want everybody to experience that. To turn from that to a church that is inward looking. To turn to 'I love to do this or do that because this is what I love.' I love prayer meeting, i love cell group, I love attending Sunday service, I love soaking and I love preaching. All this is about what I love and not what God loves. Yet all these things is part of our lives as a believer. The difference is one is doing it because this is what My God loves therefore I do and the other I do because this is what I love. Doing things that God loves and doing things that we love is the difference What is it in Your heart, Lord? What is it that You are longing Lord? What is it You are looking for Lord? This would be the heart and thoughts of one who is in love with God. Blessing Ambrose Francis
