Luke 8:14
Now the ones that fell among thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity. Luke 8:14
Jesus explains the parable of the sower. This is about the seed that fell on thorns. It is about those who heard the word of God but go out and got themselves choked with the cares, riches and pleasures of life. Both heard the same word but each responded differently and had a different result. Jesus is revealing to the people the important aspect of hearing Him - to carry out what we have heard. We are very familiar with the things in the world but are not so familiar with what God has said to carry them out in our lives. To "live in pleasure" is translated from the Greek word spatalao, describing a lifestyle of abandonment to one's desires for comfort and pleasure. What stops us from being a doer of the word is choosing to remain in a comfortable area and refusing to step out in faith to do what we have heard. We are choked by our own desires and our own standing instead of standing in Christ and His word. God is calling His church out from being dormant to being active in His Spirit and to participate in every part of who He is to us and who we are in Him. God wants us to accept and participate in what He is doing on this earth. We are His ambassador, we are His hand and feet. If we don't move with Him, people would have fewer chances of knowing Him. The more we participate in Him, the more people can get to experience the Almighty God. Every word that we have heard will be at risk of losing its effect if we don't carry His word out. We are co-workers with Him, we are His river, we are His light and salt for every soul in the world. Today we can make a choice to obey God and step out in faith to do what He has commanded us. Let us take our place and be actively involved with Him so that we will be among those who do the will of God. Blessings Ps Ambrose Francis Xavier
