“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”

‭‭I John‬ ‭4‬:‭1‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

John taught believers to test the spirit behind every doctrine, checking on their motivation and their purpose.

Also to test it to see if what is being taught or carried out is according to the person of Jesus Christ.

John listed down some of the main things to consider in our testing from verse 2 onwards.

The first one is that anyone who teaches that Jesus did not come in the flesh is an antichrist.

For the word of God has to in line with the person of Jesus.

God’s word has been twisted and turned by many for they have their own agenda and motivations.

They did not carry the same teaching which reflects Christ. Jesus always put others first, loved others, came to save, not to condemn and He has given invitation to all mankind to come to him.

Regardless of what they have done, God’s loving arms have been stretched on that cross for all who come to Him will be saved.

Every word of God empowers people.

In correction it brings empowerment, in teaching and preaching it edifies one another in Christ.

We have to be aware of teachings that bring people under the control of a man instead of God.

We honour leadership, we submit to authority and are a part of a family who leads people to Jesus Christ.

Looking unto Jesus through His word and being led by the Holy Spirit will give us a clear understanding of how to anchor our lives in God.
