But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.

Jesus paid the ultimate price to fulfil all the law with His own life. But because sin was not found in Him, death could not hold Him down. Jesus rose from death and lives for eternity.

When we received Jesus into our lives and take on the new life in Christ, the law has no power to hold us down in bondage. Instead, we have been made free in the resurrection power and life of Christ.

We need to live life in the newness of the Spirit. This means we have to learn through God's word and through His Spirit about this new life.

We cannot serve the Lord or anyone with the law.

We serve with the grace, mercy and love of God.

This new image of God needs to take root in us, letting it shape our thoughts and hearts to live in the newness of the Spirit.

We need to discard the old things of the law in order to move on to the new spiritual image we have in Christ.

Let us keep pressing on by living in the new covenant, with a spirit-filled life and with the power of God.

Let us not be persuaded by the law but by the Spirit of God.
