Colossians 2:5 NKJV
“For though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ.”
Colossians 2:5 NKJV
Paul wrote to Colosse or Laodicea, a group of people that he probably have not met before. Yet these churches have come into acquaintances with Paul.
Here in this letter, Paul exalts the believers for their good order and steadfastness and encourages them to continue in the knowledge and revelation that have been passed on.
This is so that everything that they built would be upon Jesus and all that Jesus has established for them.
In a place where the practices of Judaism, traditions, and philosophies of the past are still prevalent, believers need to be careful not to bring those things into the faith.
This concerned Paul deeply. As an Apostle, Paul had seen many had been led astray to live a ceremonial life instead of a life filled with the power and glory of God.
The ceremonial life does not require much faith. It can perform well, and has a form of godliness but can never produce the power and glory of God.
Paul did not want the believers to be entangled with a ceremonial lifestyle but to live as a child of God and full of His inheritance.
We too need to be careful not to indulge ourselves to work with the current trend of things but be diligent to live and present the gospel of Jesus in its fullness.
For the gospel empowers us, frees us from condemnation, and set us up to live a victorious life in Christ Jesus.
We need to keep walking steadfastly on the foundation that Jesus had laid and continue to build each other in the truth or else our efforts will be in vain.
Let us continue to live in Christ and the revelation of our identity and life that is found in Him.
Blessings
