Jesus taught and gave us His commandment to love one another. Everything we do through Jesus will be out of love because He is love.
Before Jesus gave us this command, He first described how He received the love from the Father and how He loved His Father in return.
In verse 9 Jesus said AS the Father loved me so I have loved you.
It means the same measure the Father poured out to Jesus, Jesus then turned and poured out on us.
Jesus loved His Father by loving us. We wonder shouldn’t Jesus return the Father's love to His Father instead?
Jesus returns His love to the Father by giving to the Father what the Father desires most, His children.
Verse 10 says that by keeping the commandment Jesus abided in the Father's love. That is loving His children.
How do we abide in God’s love? Just AS Jesus loved us we, therefore, return our love to Him by loving one another.
This is how Jesus has shown us how to abide in His love which is to love one another.
This is the kingdom of God when we extend love to others and love them the way Jesus loved us and gave His life for us.
Love heals everyone, restores everyone, and gives hope to all who are willing to abide in Him.
