“speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,” Ephesians 5:19 NKJV
Paul was addressing the importance for all believers to carry out the life of God and not of the world. There has to be a clear distinction between the two. In the book of Revelation, the word of God says that it is neither hot nor cold. This seems to be a difficult task from a natural point of view but the truth is our mind and our heart can only display and do the things we have allowed in. Therefore, Paul in these verses encourages believers to input into our mind and heart by filling them with the thoughts of God and His kingdom. In order to speak to one another, we need to have in us the word of God and knowledge of God’s goodness. We do need to surround ourselves with the community of believers that will speak to one another the greatness of God and His power rather than people that entangle themselves with the cares of the world. This is not about isolating from the people that need to be reached out with the gospel but to have a community and environment that will build our spirit man. This is so that we can be refreshed and restored continuously and our witness can be strong. The believers in the early church did the same. They reached out to save souls by preaching, teaching and demonstrating the power of God, then they return to the community to build up and strengthen by giving God the praise and glory. To make melody in our hearts is a way to fill our entire being with the goodness of God, remembering and thinking of His love and kindness. We recall the miracles and provisions that we have received from God. Let us continue to live the set-apart life that has been purchased for us by Christ Jesus and surround ourselves with believers that will speak God’s word to one another. Blessings
