John 1:27 NKJV

It is He who, coming after me, is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to lose.

John 1:27 NKJV

John the Baptist, the last prophet of the old covenant, prepared the way for the Savior who would bring in the new covenant.

He acknowledged that Christ is preferred before him, indicating that the law and the prophets served to point people to Christ, the Savior of the world.

The law and the prophets were written to prepare the hearts and minds for the day of true redemption that only can come through the death and resurrection of Christ.

Reading the Old Testament without Christ in mind would lead to a lack of understanding and a wrong conclusion as the veil is only removed when one turns to Christ.

Christ is the door for us to see our Father's plan and purposes. Christ is the lens through which we see who we really are and what we have received.

John the Baptist said that all the law and the prophets cannot come close to who Christ is and what He brings to all mankind.

As an old covenant believer and prophet, John says that he is not worthy to loose Christ's sandal. But as a new covenant believer, Christ has raised us up to sit together with Him in heavenly places that we may rule and reign with Him every day of our lives.

The contrast between these two covenants cannot be compared for what Christ has brought to us is far greater than all the covenants.

Christ has made us worthy sons and daughters of the Most High God, and we are now ministers of the new covenant. Let us live as a new creation, as God's children, filled with the Spirit, and pleasing to our Father and Lord Jesus Christ.

Blessings,

Ps Ambrose
