I Corinthians 1:17 NKJV
“For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.”
I Corinthians 1:17 NKJV
Some of the Corinthians leaders were still carnal in their thinking and still filled with the ways of the religious people.
They were more concerned about who was the greatest and who baptised them, to associate their importance.
Paul countered their carnality by saying I have not been sent to baptise but to preach Christ Jesus and Him crucified.
Paul turned their carnal thinking to set on Christ and His kingdom.
The cross of Christ can be made of no effect by their emphasis on rituals, status and earthly connections.
Paul on the other hand received revelation upon revelation about who Christ is and what Christ has given to all believers.
Paul is teaching us that we need to be constant in living in Christ and in His fullness.
This can be very offensive to some as Paul said that Christ did not send him to baptise.
For many were baptised in water as a ritual without meaning while living life as before without any change.
When Christ is the centre of our lives and everything we do is a worship unto Him, then our lives would be very different from those who do not know Christ.
Paul is teaching that there is power in Christ and His power is effective in bringing transformation to our lives.
Let us not miss the effective power of Christ by taking our eyes off Christ and placing it on other things.
Let us look unto Jesus and the power of His resurrection.
