Genesis 37:28 NKJV
“Then Midianite traders passed by; so the brothers pulled Joseph up and lifted him out of the pit, and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty shekels of silver. And they took Joseph to Egypt.”
Genesis 37:28 NKJV
Joseph had a dream about his future and he told his family but they were not impressed.
His brothers hated him and decided to kill him and they plotted for that day to come.
Finally Joseph brought some food for his brothers and the brothers took the opportunity to discard Joseph.
Instead of killing him, they threw him into the pit. As they were eating the merchant came and the brothers sold Joseph for twenty shekels of silver.
In the natural, all this looks like a bad day, a bad outcome and a very unfortunate thing that happened to Joseph.
In the natural, Joseph's dream is getting far away from him but the truth is everything that happened is leading to fulfilling Joseph’s dream.
The pit is on the road where the merchant passed by. The brothers threw Joseph into a pit so that he will look like a slave, took him out and the brothers were paid for Joseph to get to his dream which is to take place in Egypt.
What looks like a setback was a set up for Joseph to fulfil his dream.
Joseph held on to what he would become, he was not living a reckless life but a purpose-filled one.
This does not mean that every bad thing that happens is God setting it up for our destination.
God has given us the power to succeed in life and if we keep Him first, we will fulfil our destiny in Him.
We may go through hell on earth, we may be surrounded by all kinds of challenges but if we keep holding on to the promises of God.
We will be heading towards our destination no matter how things may look like.
Joseph went through so many setbacks but all of them led him closer and finally fulfilled the dream he had.
Let’s keep believing, keep trusting and keep pressing on by fixing our eyes on Jesus.
