Genesis 4:7 NKJV

If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”

Genesis 4:7 NKJV

In the beginning, the story of Cain and Abel teaches us the importance of living and walking by faith and not to walk by our own works.

The two sons of Adam and Eve were diligent in their works. Both were faithful in cultivating their own area of farming. Cain worked the ground and the Able tended the sheep.

There was nothing mentioned about the law for them to bring any specific offerings to the Lord. It did not even mention they should bring an offering to the Lord.

The offering is a free-will gift that they brought before the Lord and the only difference is the condition of the hearts of Cain and Abel.

Abel did it by faith as mentioned in Hebrews 11. He did it not with faith in what he had in his hands but faith in whom he came to worship. Abel's faith was in God.

Jesus mentioned in 1 John 3:12 that Cain's works were evil and his brother's righteous. We know that it is only by faith in God that God accounts for people to be righteous.

God was speaking to Cain about the condition of his heart that caused his countenance to fail.

God warned Cain not to let the desire linger because sin awaits when we linger around that kind of thoughts, imagination and ideas.

God told Cain to rule over that thought and let not his heart to be conditioned by what happened.

There was grace for Cain to overcome that thought otherwise God would have not told him that but he did not.

Faith in God can eliminate thoughts and feelings that are not right before God. These thoughts are traps that the enemy put to entice us to sin against God.

Have faith not in our offerings and in our devotion to God but have faith in God who is faithful and He will do what He says.
