Psalms 119:36 NKJV

Incline my heart to Your testimonies, And not to covetousness.

Psalms 119:36 NKJV

The psalmist prayed for their hearts to be inclined to the testimonies of God's greatness.

The old nature is bound to be attracted or inclined to the things that are fallen according to this world. Therefore a cry comes from the psalmist to be free from it.

In the new covenant, Jesus freed us from these bondages. Jesus made us new through His Spirit so that now we have power in the spirit to incline our hearts to His promises.

To incline our hearts by the power of His Spirit through God's word will transform our thoughts and hearts. It will help us to be obedient and receptive to His leading.

Covetousness is to desire and want things that are not ours.

God made us in His image and likeness. This is who we are. To have something that is not in our identity is covetousness.

Desiring God's word and His promises will eliminate covetousness from our lives. It will strengthen our inner man.

Now through Christ, we have the power to incline our hearts toward His promises and to desire all that is of our God.

Let us continue to build on all that Jesus has done for us, giving our full attention to Him.

Blessings
